Grahame Barn – Chief Executive

As Chief Executive of CECA Scotland, Grahame Barn leads the organisation in supporting civil engineering contractors across Scotland. He is a strong advocate for skills development and plays a key role in shaping training initiatives that bridge the industry’s skills gap. Grahame is passionate about creating opportunities for the next generation of civil engineers. His work with the CECA Scotland Academy ensures that students gain the knowledge, hands-on experience, and industry connections they need to thrive in the sector. He actively engages with government, industry leaders, and training bodies to promote fair procurement practices and enhance workforce development.

Through his leadership, CECA Scotland continues to strengthen partnerships between education and industry, ensuring a skilled and sustainable workforce for the future of civil engineering in Scotland.

Juliet Mallace – Consultant

Juliet manages the delivery of the CECA Scotland Academy project across Scotland, ensuring its smooth implementation and industry alignment. With a career that began in architecture, followed by a transition into further education as a lecturer and later as Head of School, Juliet brings a wealth of experience in both academia and project management. She has worked extensively with employers, students, colleges, funding partners, and agencies such as the Scottish Funding Council. She sees the Academy as a vital initiative that recruits and trains individuals for Scotland’s civil engineering sector, utilising government funding to provide industry-focused training that supports the nation’s transition to a net-zero workforce.

Sandy MacGillivray – Consultant

Sandy plays a crucial role in supporting the rollout and delivery of the CECA Scotland Academy across the country. With a background as an apprentice and employer in the construction industry, he has extensive experience in training, skills development, apprenticeships, and project management. His work with employers, federations, government agencies, and funding bodies provides invaluable insight into the sector’s evolving needs. As a key contact for employers, students, colleges, and funding partners, Sandy is passionate about the Academy’s ability to prepare individuals for long-term careers in civil engineering while ensuring employers can meet Scotland’s growing infrastructure demands.

Joanne Saunders – Marketing & Communications Manager

Joanne is responsible for driving CECA Scotland’s strategic marketing and communications programme, ensuring that the organisation effectively engages with its members and stakeholders. Since joining CECA Scotland in 2021, she has played a key role in organising events and has since expanded her focus to building relationships through targeted marketing strategies. She connects with members through face-to-face interactions and digital outreach across multiple social media platforms. Joanne is the key point of contact for CECA Scotland members and champions the CECA Academy as a vital initiative in bridging the skills gap in civil engineering, ensuring a steady influx of fresh talent into the industry.

Robyn Cooper – Events & Membership Services Executive

Robyn works closely with the CECA Scotland Academy to coordinate key events such as graduations and college launch events. She is responsible for planning and managing a range of events, including training days, forums, webinars, the CECA Scotland Annual Awards Dinner, and Academy job fairs. With experience in planning and coordination roles in the publishing and tourism industries, Robyn brings strong organisational skills to her role. As a key point of contact for colleges and industry partners, she facilitates engagement between students and employers, helping graduates transition into the workforce. She believes the Academy provides an invaluable alternative pathway into civil engineering, offering hands-on experience and direct employment opportunities.
